A Holiday SO Nice …. I Want to Talk About it Twice!
That’s right, we are talking July 4th… again! There is just so much to do in this small town to celebrate Independence Day I want to make sure you don’t miss out on a thing. I mean, that’s what I’m here for right? To give you all the hints!
Growing up, the 4th of July was one of my absolute favorite holidays and as a young adult I feel the same exact way! It is a time for friends, family and summer fun! There is absolutely no better place to celebrate America’s birthday than Cooperstown, NY, aka “America’s Hometown”, aka “The Best Small Town in America”.
Begin your morning with a parade!
As I mentioned in last week’s Hanna’s Hints, the parade in Springfield is near and dear to my heart. It is a celebration of music, local culture and freedom, of course! The 104th Annual Springfield 4th of July Parade and Celebration begins at 11:00 a.m. in Springfield Center. This year’s theme if “It’s a Grand Old Flag” so it’s sure to be a festive day! At the conclusion of the parade be sure to stick around for a celebration with live music, games, a Brook’s Chicken BBQ and more!
Not quite as longstanding, but equally as festive, is the Sharon Springs July 4th Parade. This year will mark the 3rd annual Independence Day Parade and the theme is “Music of America!” The event is sponsored by the Sharon Springs Chamber of Commerce and it is sure to be a great one. The parade begins at 10:00am, runs along historic Route 20 and ends with a BBQ at the Sharon Springs School.
While you decide which parade to attend, let me leave you with this bit of comical advice…. “If you’re watchin’ a parade, make sure you stand in one spot, don’t follow it, it never changes….and if the parade is boring, run in the opposite direction, you will fast-forward the parade.” – Mitch Hedberg
Take part in a Traditional Independence Day Celebration at The Farmers’ Museum!
There is no better place to celebrate the founding of America than at The Farmers’ Museum. Step back in time with one of the oldest rural life museums in the country. Beginning at noon, you’ll hear the ringing of the church bell, view the presentation of the Militia as they fire their muskets, followed by the reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Village Green. Enjoy a day filled with traditional music, along with readings from Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, and Susan B. Anthony.
There is so much to see and do at The Farmers’ Museum, it is a great way to celebrate the 4th of July with your entire family! Check out the full schedule of events from The Farmers’ Museum!
End the Day with Live Music and Fireworks!
If you haven’t been to a concert at Brewery Ommegang yet, it is a must! It is by far one of my favorite outdoor venues and here are just a few reasons why; the slope of the grassy hill behind the brewery acts as a natural amphitheater, the selection of food trucks lining the hop field can’t be beat, the beer is always cold and enthusiastically served by local charities, they bands chosen to perform are always incredible and each show concludes with a fireworks display! On July 4th, Grammy Award winner Ray LaMontagne and very special guest Neko Case will perform outdoors at Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York. Tickets are $55 and there are still some available so you don’t have to miss out on this awesome show!
If you’re looking for an awesome evening on a budget, Glimmerglass State Park is the place to be! Beginning at 7:30pm local favorite rock n’ roll band, Scattered Flurries, will perform. Following the show enjoy an awesome fireworks display sponsored by the Springfield 4th of July Parade and Celebration!
Hopefully I have given you plenty of ideas to keep your July 4th packed full this year! It is going to be a beautiful, yet hot day, so be sure to stay safe and stay hydrated! I love to hear from you!
