3 Places for Outdoor Entertainment This Summer
One of the best parts about Cooperstown is the natural beauty of the entire region. Summer in Cooperstown is a magical time of year with the rolling green hills, the glistening turquoise lake, and the bright blue sky that fades into the most brilliant sunsets. Spending every second possible outdoors in the summer is highly encouraged and luckily this week I am going to tell you about 3 events that happen each week outdoors.
Cooperstown Lake Front Concert Series
Tuesday at 7:00pm – Cooperstown’s Lake Front Park – FREE
Each Tuesday evening of July and August pack your blanket, grab a picnic dinner from your favorite local restaurant and head down to Lake Front Park in Cooperstown for some quality entertainment. The weekly selection of music ranges from big bands performing classic jazz to solo acoustic artists. No matter the weekly entertainment, the atmosphere can’t be beat. The combination of beautiful music and the breathtaking sunsets over the lake, is a great reminder of why Cooperstown is the quintessential American village. This week’s performers, Leatherstocking Jazz, had me romanticizing about the Cooperstown of yesteryear.
Fenimore Art Museum’s Glimmer Globe Theatre
Speaking of romantic performances on the lake…. watching any production at the Lucy B. Hamilton Amphitheater, located behind the Fenimore Art Museum, is truly an enchanting experience. There are only a few chances left to see this year’s production of William Shakespeare’s Othello, directed by Michael Henrici. It wouldn’t be Hanna’s Hints if I wasn’t completely honest with you so here it goes… I know some of you out there are thinking what I was thinking before I went to see Othello …. Shakespeare can be a bit hard to swallow and maybe isn’t for everyone. I promise you this, whether you are theatre aficionado or are a newcomer to Shakespeare, this production can be enjoyed by all. The cast will keep you spellbound with this classic story of love and betrayal. There was no lack of laughter and entertainment had by all. I am definitely looking forward to attending which will be performed at the amphitheater during the month of August.
“It was the perfect evening watching Shakespeare, while enjoying the beautiful back drop of Otsego lake, such a fun and unique experience!” – Henry, Fenimore Theatregoer
Brewery Ommegang’s Fire Pit Fridays
Friday at 6:00pm – 9:00pm – FREE
So, maybe I still didn’t sell you on the whole Shakespeare thing… and you prefer your outdoor entertainment with a side of local craft beer? Well then, Fire Pit Friday at Brewery Ommegang is the perfect place for you. Every Friday evening, Ommegang hosts an energetic party on their newly renovated patio featuring a different band or DJ each week, yard games, a bonfire and of course their world famous beer! I can’t think of a better way to unwind after a long week than a few tasty beers, some awesome tunes and a rip roaring bonfire. Grab a table and enjoy dinner from their delicious café or put on your dancing shoes and enjoy just relish in the delightful music.
Silly me, I almost forgot to mention something totally awesome! Every Friday, Brewery Ommegang is chartering a trolley from Doubleday Field Parking Lot to Brewery Ommegang for Fire Pit Fridays. At 5:45pm you can hop on a Leatherstocking Trolley and ride it for FREE directly to the festivities at Ommegang. At the end of the evening, around 9:00pm the trolley will bring you back to Doubleday Parking Lot so that you can continue your evening in downtown Cooperstown!
