The Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce is seeking an Executive Director to lead the
organization in its mission to serve and support local business.
The Chamber itself acts as a catalyst to develop partnerships that benefit the community,
providing educational opportunities as well as advocacy on relevant issues. We host private
networking events in addition to major public events and programs, existing to strengthen our
members’ businesses while raising the profile of Cooperstown at large. Our high impact
promotional services include a popular area map, the operation of a kiosk and welcome center
for brochure distribution, and online presence in the form of website and social media.
The primary purpose of the Executive Director is to act as a collaborative force, balancing the
needs of a diverse Chamber membership while managing the staff and liasing with the
governing Board of Directors. It is a position that demands flexibility, prudence, diplomacy, and
precision. Excellent communication skills are essential, and the Executive Director must be
comfortable with public speaking. A strong business acumen and understanding of business
development is key, as is a keen awareness of marketing and tourism practices.
Successful candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or equivalent
work/life experience. A work history that includes staff oversight, project management, and
fiscal responsibilities will be looked on favorably.
Upon hiring, the Executive Director must reside in or intend to reside in the Cooperstown
region. Salary option starts at $50,000 but is commensurate with experience.
