24th Annual Leatherstocking Sheepdog Trials

The Leatherstocking Sheepdog Trial is sanctioned by both the North East Border Collie Association (NEBCA)and the United States Border Collie Handler’s Association, Inc. (USBCHA).The Sheepdog Trial is a competitive dog sport in which a dog moves sheep around a field, through gates, and into enclosures as directed by their handler. The workmanship between dog and handler, and the ever unpredictable sheep, make for a fascinating sport to watch.

The 2019 24th Annual Leatherstocking Sheepdog Trial
held on the Robert F. Clark field off Beaver Meadow Road.
Starts time is around 8:00 AM and goes until the last dog runs

(usually around 5:00 PM)

Admission: The admission fee is $5.00 per person, children under 12 are free. The onetime fee is good for re-admission all weekend, simply save your program for proof of payment.

Parking: Free parking is available.

Pets: Friendly dogs on leash are welcome to watch the trial with their people. However dogs that bark or in other ways cause distractions for the handlers on the field will be asked to leave.

What to bring: The trials are a great way to relax and enjoy a day with the family. Bring chairs or a blanket to sit on. Binoculars can be helpful to see what’s going on at the top of the field when the Lift begins. The trials run in all weather, rain or shine. Food concessions will be available.

Note: Not all working dogs like to have their picture taken or to be petted. Please ask the handler before engaging with a working dog.
