The Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York presents its twelfth annual juried art event celebrating fine artists who are inspired by our region and its beauty, Art by the Lake, taking place Saturday, August 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on the museum’s expansive lakefront lawn. This year, a wider range of art will be available for visitors to see and purchase including oil and watercolor paintings, photography, sculpture, blown glass, wood carving and more. The event features artist demonstrations, great food by Origins Café, and tastings with Cooperstown Distillery – all with the backdrop of picturesque Otsego Lake.
Art by the Lake is a juried art competition featuring 27 artists from the region. A panel of judges determines awards–this year led by on-site awards judge June Tyler. Six cash prizes will be awarded as well as two additional prizes sponsored by Golden Artist Colors. The awards ceremony takes place at 1:00 p.m. Artists include Meg Anderson Argo, Vernon Burnett, Susana Caban, Shannon Delany, Lorraine Dewey, Jennifer Gibson, Robert Glisson, Erik Halvorson, Tracy Helgeson, Lu D Huang, Johanna Husband, Tom Hussey, Richard Kathmann, Susan Jones Kenyon, Nancy Kieffer, Doug & Barbara Luhmann, RC Oster, Alex Roediger, Sam Ross, Marie Sanderson, Ritvik Sharma, Holly Spiess, Lisa Tessier, Emmanuel Vaucher, Christopher Wakefield, and Annie Zygarowicz.
While at Art by the Lake, tour the Fenimore’s acclaimed summer exhibitions featuring Herb Ritts: The Rock Portraits, Perfect Harmony: The Musical Art and Life of William Sidney Mount and others–as well as the museum’s renowned collections. The Fenimore Café and Fenimore Gift Shop are open throughout the day.
Admission to Art by the Lake is $12 (ages 13 and up) and includes access to Fenimore Art Museum and this summer’s popular exhibitions. Enjoy two events for only $20. Purchase a 2-way ticket with The Farmers’ Museum and get admission to Hopsego–taking place across the street, on the same day. Museum members and children 12 and under are free. Active and retired career military are also free when presenting their card at admissions. Tickets are available at the door on the day of the event.
