Art Show: Artists OBSESSED
Artists OBSESSED at The Art Garage Cooperstown, NY—’Artists Obsessed’ launches the Art Garage 2026 season, on view Saturdays 11am-3pm, May 30, June 6, 13, 20, 27 and July 4 – and any day of the week with a call or text 315-941-9607. The new exhibition features three established artists, Nancy Callahan, the late Lavern Kelley, and David CT Wilson, and first-time exhibitor, Todd Bachman, North Pitcher, Chenango County. “On display is a concentration of ‘creative compulsion,’” noted the gallery director. “Quirky constructions, some motorized, some intricately layered and other work that’s delightfully focused, like the Kelley drawings of the 1940s that feature ag activities, or the infinite range of nature’s patterns in the wooden vessels.” The Main Gallery presents Nancy Callahan, whose work Fenimore Art Museum displayed in 2023. She offers five mesmerizing sculptures that incorporate elements of old-fashioned toys, vintage Victoriana—and dreams. David Wilson, known professionally for his large-scale architectural glass for metro stations, religious buildings, courthouses and college campuses, shares a personal, totally different, body of work: more than a half-dozen ‘vehicular’ sculptures — catafalques, dragsters and more, with attitude. First-time exhibitor Todd Bachman present objects made of wood—two dovetailed boxes and a cabinet of maple and mahogany and an assortment of exquisite textured bowls, many coaxed from ‘spalted’ wood The Middle Bay gallery showcases nationally-recognized farmer-folk artist, Lavern Kelley (1928-98), with a dramatic, floor-to-ceiling sweep of several dozen drawings most never before exhibited. Concurrently, Leo Koenig Gallery, Andes, features Kelley’s obsession, carved trucks, from the 1950s, in a group show. Also, in the Middle Bay two stunning vintage Singer sewing machines (1918 and 1923), models of elegant industrial design – two among the dozens Todd Bachman has restored. Bachman is self-taught and will informally discuss his work Sat. June 20, 11-1. Nancy Callahan and David Wilson will offer free artists talks, June 10 and 17. Gallery curator/owner Sydney Waller, will discuss Lavern Kelley and his drawings (TBA). The Art Garage has served the area 15 years with a robust range of exhibitions and public programs: artists’ demonstrations, talks, panel discussions and workshops, at 689 Beaver Meadow Road, Cooperstown.
