Wilkes-Barre’s Brendan Brisk Band is riding a wave of momentum that is only beginning to crest. After 2016’s self-produced Astral Counterfeit, leader Brisk sought to bring his lush, textured studio productions to the stage and found ready collaborators in drummer Justin Malinowski, bassist Bernard Gavlick, and trumpeter Miles Orfanella. This lineup recorded 2020’s LP Relaxylvania and latest EP Never Everywhere, records which move effortlessly from the laid-back and atmospheric to frenzied extroversion; from the earthly and personal to the spectral and ethereal. On stage, Brendan Brisk Band’s performances are fueled by collective improvisation and anchored by a sometimes mellow, sometimes driving, and always danceable rhythm. The group draws on soul, jazz, funk, R&B, psychedelia, and the blues to bring its audience to a place of inspiration and creativity, abstracted from the daily grind of obligation and ambition. Having shared the stage with prominent regional acts Cabinet, Consider the Source, West End Blend, and Yam Yam, Brendan Brisk Band hopes to further extend their reach and explore the festival sphere.
