December at The Art Garage Opens Fri Dec 13, 4:30-6:30PM Cooperstown NY-
The Art Garage will host a holiday reception on Friday December 13, 4:30-6:30pm, for Not-the-Taj-Winter-Watch show, featuring textiles, sculpture, paintings and iPhoneography.
On view: paintings by Tracy Helgeson, textiles by Ada Yonenaka, iPhonographs by Vicki Whicker, carved vintage trucks by Lavern Kelley, tiny figures by Alice Hudson and ceramic sculptures by Robert Seward. The event replaces the popular annual Taj Garage extravaganza — now on hiatus. Instead viewers can admire and consider, for example, Ada Yonenaka’s one-of-a-kind textiles: elegant silk and cotton scarves, unique wool mufflers and indigo-dyed clothing. Tracy Helgeson’s paintings present timeless elemental landscapes that memorialize upstate rural beauty. Oneonta’s most-famous artist, Lavern Kelley (1928-1998) is represented with handcarved vintage trucks and winter scenes drawn during the first half of the 20thcentury. Tiny figures and constructions represent the art of Alice Hudson, a Norwich, NY artist (1923-2013) whose estate the Art Garage also represents. Ithaca-area self-taught artist, Louis Sherry, displays brightly-colored pieced “birdhouse” sculptures. Robert Seward, whose highly-original indigo hangings and upsourced clothing were featured this past summer, offers abstrct ceramic sculptures. Former L.A. fashionista turned rural farm life appreciator, Vicki Whicker, displays the wonders of iPhoneography, an artistic discipline – photographs of the land she now inhabits, exclusively created with an iPhone.
The Art Garage will also be open the next day, Saturday December 14, 10am-1pm, for additional access to the show. After that, the gallery will be open daily until Christmas and through the end of January by appointment: call 607-547-5327, email leartgarage@gmail, text 315-941-9607 to make arrangements.
