About the Show
The Art Garage is proud to represent Kelly’s estate. Over his lifetime, he produced hundreds of trucks, several small tractors, figures, and creations. Most he sold as as he made them, usually to pay the taxes on his family farm. Those sold to the late collector, John Henry Eriksen, were kept under glass; their condition is impeccable. The rest have the expected patina of objects stored in a shed on a farm for significant periods. In addition to more than three dozen trucks—the earliest being a 1926 Larrabee—the show includes iconic cars such as the Corvette and Bel-Air convertible; handsome notecards featuring Kelley’s two-sided drawings of rural life dating from the 1940s; and striking photographs of Kelley’s carvings staged to appear life-sized.
Kelley’s Convoy also showcases painted wooden keychains made by the Mukuru Art Collective (Nairobi, Kenya). All proceeds will go to fund art supplies for the collection. Featured local artist Marcie Schwartzman will also display blue and white vessels and a white teapot with a customized fabric tea cozy in the windowsill gallery. Also on reserve: a glowing landscape from Tracey Hegelson, one of Otsego County’s most popular living artists.
