Made in Middlefield: Photography & Ceramics

Check out the fun and lively Art Garage at 689 Beaver Meadow Road, one mile from Cooperstown, and adjacent to the ‘Clark trails’ and Meadow. The rich exhibition on view offers sublime color photographs of the land, by Jamie Young, soft-focus unconventional images of the human form by Jessica Marx, a New York City transplant — and poignant down-on-the-farm black and white photographs of a local, Jersey dairy operation, Lentsville Farm, run by the youngest generation of a longtime farm family, the Krahams of Middlefield. In addition to the photography, the exhibition Made in Middlefield Part II: Photography and Sculpture, presents an array of 3D work that includes a pristine sculptural casket fashioned by farmer / casket-maker Frank Ward (1861-1932) and virtuoso ceramic sculptures by Eileen Murphy, Robert Seward and Nancy Wiener. Murphy’s salt-glaze vessels teem with wildlife, Seward presents small quirky clay figures with big personalities that sprang from bits of leftover clay, and Ms Wiener offers a triad of monumenetal abstract art forms: including a column and a trapezoid. Additionally, look for mysterious, theatrical shadowboxes by Peter Marcalus and his socio-political game of chance, and impressive small wooden objects carved by farmer Ward Green (1932-2023), grandson of Frank. Something for everyone! The exhibition is on view through May 11, open Saturdays 11-2 and seven days a week with a telephone call or text to 315-941-9607; or email leartgarage@gmail.com.
