The Binghamton Morris Men and their guests bring traditional English morris dancing to Cooperstown. The morris dance is a time-honored English country tradition. Its origins are clouded in the mist of time, but it is known that, in his day, Shakespeare cherished the morris as an ancient custom. The morris shares strongly in the world of the village green, the marketplace and the pub: A glad return to a saner, simpler, more forthright time. The dance echoes the turning of the seasons; it celebrates the bittersweet cycle of life and love. In the old days, it was said that the morris brought good luck and prosperity to the community! The Binghamton Morris Men have brought morris dancing to Otswego County nearly every year since 1977. Join us and our guests the Bouwerie Boys Morris Dancers of New York City and the Newtowne Morris Men of Boston as we welcome the spring.
