All are welcome to this reception at the Art Garage, especially out of area visitors, including from Japan (we have Japanese speakers!) to help celebrate the art / artists in the latest fabulous show: Samurai Baseball & More: a fine-arts-look-at-baseball! Wildly and often profoundly creative, you ll find: a wall of 14 different art posters that embrace and honor the samurai spirit and baseball, by Robert Seward, who lived in Japan for decades; artist-made one-of-a-kind baseball cards that feature hall of famers…as cats (!), by Steph Marcus, made with modeling clay (yes, there are also reproductions, so you can build your own set with the likes of Licky Mantle, Trevor Hoffcat and such!!! ). Other art includes a six-foot carved bat by Charles Matteson, a samurai trophy that features a katana (sword) and saya (scabbard) — and an impaled baseball (!) by David Wilson; gorgeous meditative patterned works on paper by Ada Yonenaka that include Ichiro Wave, a tribute to the induction of Ichiro Suzuki — and so much more. Don’t miss the video clips of amazing skill: the slicing of pitched baseballs with a sword!!! Refreshments. Please park on gallery lawns not on the town road for public safety. Free admission. Come back daily over the weekend. Extended hours on Saturday gallery will open at 10-4, followed by a 4-6PM autographing session of art, and of rare hard-to-find books such as a biography of Ichiro Suzuki edited / produced by Elmer Luke (Hawaii and Cooperstown), who will be present, and Diamonds Are Forever: Artists and Writers on Baseball (of course) — plus, a special taste of Japan, sponsored by Chichibu, and to include Japanese snacks. We especially welcome Japanese guests– Japanese spoken!– and of course all other fans of art or baseball or both. Gallery will be open Induction Day, Sunday, 10am-2pm, and will also feature a grab-n-go baseball art shop to include vintage baseball Cooperstown posters. The exhibition was organized to celebrate the induction of Ichiro Suzuki. For more information text call 315-941-9607 (also to request a press packet). See FB and Instagram: @artgaragecooperstown. The show will be on view Saturdays 11am-3pm and daily with a call/text/email until Sat. Sept 13.
