Sculpting and Carving Workshops with Marc Leuthold
Saturday July 10th! Marc Leuthold, internationally acclaimed artist and Professor of Ceramics at the State University of New York, College at Potsdam will teach two workshops this summer at azure arts studio. Morning Workshop, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Kurinuki, a technique of carving a tea bowl from a very thick wheel thrown vessel. Leuthold will provide all instruction on making and carving the tea bowl, as well as give a wheel throwing demonstration and background on methods for carving clay. Afternoon Workshop, 1 – 4 p.m.: Composite sculpture techniques using wheel thrown, altered, modeled and handbuilt pieces. Leuthold will guide you through the creation of various forms, sensibility and considerations when composing work, as well as techniques for combining various parts and finishing of the sculpture.
