Twas the Saturday Before Christmas: At the Art Garage, Sat. Dec. 21, 10am – 1 pm
The Art Garage will be open Saturday December 21, 10am-1pm—and as always opens daily with a phone call, per owner/gallerist/director Sydney L. Waller.
On view, a treasure trove of fine art and finely executed craft: ceramics by Robert Seward and elegant hand-dyed or stamped silk scarves by Ada Yonenaka, both Middlefield artists. This Not-the-Taj-Winter-Watch show also features jewel-like miniature iPhoneic images by Vicki Whicker, who documents the seasons on her farm near Burlington Flats. The region’s top award-winning painter, Tracy Helgeson, offers a full wall of bucolic and peaceful tableaux, infinitely varied within their aesthetic as she explores the beautiful landscapes around us at various times of day.
From late farmer folk artist, Lavern Kelley, a few of his many two-sided drawings of agricultural scenes that he made ion the 1940s. Also a few examples from the aspirational fleet of trucks that he carved in the 1950s, despite his many hardships including the death of his father and running the family farm. The estate of Alice Hudson presents “the paisley people,” tiny expressive figures constructed of bits of paisley, and a man with his baby, created largely with shell bits. Louis Sherry is a self-taught Ithaca-area artist who offers suspended brightly-colored pieced “birdhouse” sculptures. iPhone.
The event replaces the popular annual Taj Garage extravaganza — now on hiatus.
The gallery will be open daily except for Dec 25 and 26, through the end of January, with a phone call, text or email: call 607-547-5327, email leartgarage@gmail, text 315-941-9607 to make an appointment. Images on view: see Facebook ArtGarageCooperstown.
